A wine from the Tasman region, in the Upper Moutere hills area, discovered on my recent visit to the Cellar Door. A very pale steely green colour in the glass. The perfume has good varietal typicity, with rose petal, pear, marshmallow, cardamom, orange peel, lemon curd and a little funky, smokiness as well, hinting at some skin-contact in the winemaking. The palate has a tight balance between great acidity, ripe fruit and a talcum powder texture. Dry, with a lovely spicy character around the edges. A contrast of candy-store confections and white pepper adds more personality and interest. The finish has good length too. 92pts
