A red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from Waiheke Island. An inky dark garnet red colour – little sign of age in the glass. The perfume is hedonistic, with blackcurrant, raspberry, plum and bramble fruits folded into toasted spices, vanilla, dark chocolate and old leather notes. Full-bodied, with concentration and weight in the palate, where acidity, chalky tannin and plenty of smoky oak are well-balanced and form a solid, bold structure. As well as the ripe fruit, as the wine unwinds, there are hints of savoury flavours seeping in. A touch of caramel at the finish, which has super length. 95pts
