A wine with some pedigree here in New Zealand, having won multiple trophies and awards over the years – including recently the WineFolio Top 10 tasting! It is sealed under cork. A pale golden colour in the glass, with the gold transferring to the bouquet, with ripe peach and quince amongst the aromas. Pink grapefruit, lemon peel, cashew nut, tarragon and baking spices are packed in there as well. Time in bottle has muted the acidity, and the palate is holding up but you ought to be drinking this now – the ones I had a two to three years ago had more energy. Well-known as being bold with the oak, and it is rich and toasted here, but it is also quite elegant and serious in intention, and it is good to see an example standing up to being very enjoyable thirteen years on. The finish has that dry pithy edge and good length. 94pts
