A wine from Central Otago from the 4 hectare vineyard block on Penkridge Farm, made by Matt Connell. A deep burgundy colour in the glass. Beautifully varietal in the bouquet, with cranberry, plum and black cherries, then toasted spice and rose petal florals. A young wine, with a coltish, coiled power into the medium-bodied palate. Led by a lick of vibrant acidity, the wine unfurls with air, with the fleshy fruit flavours shining. A subtle backbone of tannic grip sits well with the savoury elements that come forward. A touch of pepper, provencal herbs and black olives. The finish comes together well and has elegance and length. 93pts
