From the Wrekin vineyard in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys sub-region. With some bottle age, this has a pale golden glow in the glass. The bouquet shows spice and a very alluring scent of melon, pineapple, apricot and apple, with pie crust and spun sugar. The acidity is vibrant – breaking through the richness of the flavours you get on the nose. Tight, slightly angular mid-palate, with complexity and layers to understand. There is some nuance of barrel – a warmth and depth that also brings in some lees-influence in creamy shades and a tickle of tannin. The finish has some heat but is lengthy and satisfying. 93pts
