The top-level white wine from Man O’ War on Waiheke Island. Quite a bold golden hue in the glass. An intense and rich bouquet, showing grapefruit, quince, vanilla, peach, cashew nut, loquat, lemon peel and juniper. Concentrated and powerful in the palate, with a moulded structure that carries the obvious toastiness from the oak very well. Zesty acidity brings more tension, and a touch of tannin gives some nice grip. Add in some caramel spice and a viscose texture and it is a weighty, full-bodied style – but it wears it well. The finish is dry, long and elegant. 95pts
