A wine from Martinborough – the vineyard has free-draining gravels on the Martinborough Terrace, which it needed in 2022 as a ‘rainfall event of biblical proportions’ threatened the crop in February of that vintage. A pale green gold in the glass. Grapefruit, white peach, apple, lemon and almond on the nose, with some spice and nougat. A brittle, saline acidity leads the palate, with plenty of vanilla, toasty oak as a deeper note. Plenty of energy here, right through the mid-weight palate. The texture is fine, silken and chalky, adding some finesse and rounding things out well. The finish has a tart minerality but good length. 92pts
