The world’s best vineyard (of 2024)

Having visited the vineyard that was the winner of this award from 2022 – Antinori nel Chianti Classico in Tuscany in September, I was keen to see who would win the gong for 2024. Organised by William Reed – the global ‘shows and awards’ production company, you can find out more about the voting process, the full list of the “World’s Best Vineyards 2024” and past winners at www.worldsbestvineyards.com.

The 2024 award went to Marqués de Riscal, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. The Marqués de Riscal City of Wine is renowned for its Instagram-friendly photogenic hotel, which was designed by architect Frank Gehry. The vineyards were established in 1858, planted with Tempranillo and Graciano as the main grape varieties. The best rows are used to produce the flagship Barón de Chirel Reserva.

VIK claimed the runner-up spot for its vineyard, which is part of a 4,300ha nature reserve in the Millahue Valley, Chile. The final place on the podium was awarded to Creation in Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa.
