Chardonnay from the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke’s Bay, in a great vintage. Plenty of colour in the glass here – a brilliant gold. Plenty to find on the nose too – bold, with a balance of fruit and savoury aromas. There is spicy, toasty oak, cashew nut and oatmeal, but also peach, grapefruit and apple. The oak sits centre stage, with nutty, yeasty and gravel flavours. Acidity supports and gives drive through the middle, keeping the flavours turning over. Good palate weight and a nudge of creamy texture at the end. Generous into the finish with decent length. 91pts
