A wine from the Morrison Vineyard on the Waimea Plains of Nelson. A bright lemon-gold colour in the glass. The nose is reticent at first, but wakes up nicely with some air. Perfumed with grapefruit, apricot danish, lemon blossom, almond, honey and dried pineapple. Good, zesty acidity gets those flavours moving, and there is more on the palate, with juniper, white pepper and spices emerging. A sense of lemon meringue and cheesecake – as much in the texture as the flavours. Light phenolic characters add a pithy note to the finish. An excellent expression of this relatively scarce varietal. 92pts
