A wine from Waiheke Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, and winner of the Trophy for Champion Syrah at the NZIWS in 2024 – one of three Trophy-winning wines from this producer. A deep burgundy colour in the glass. The bouquet is bright and rich, with cranberry, redcurrant, salami, plum and blueberry. Full-bodied, dry and bold on the palate where the silky tannin sets the core and some juicy acidity keeps the flavours turning over. Sweet and savoury notes add complexity, with dark chocolate, tobacco, toasted spice, campari and graphite all featuring in my tasting notes. The finish has excellent persistence. 94pts
