The South Brook vineyard is located in the Fairhall Valley within the Marlborough Southern Valleys sub-region, planted with traditional Dijon clones. This is a wine I saw last year as well, so it is interesting to see any vintage variation, or development in style. The 2023 vintage has a mid-ruby colour in the glass and reveals a perfume of youthful energy and Pinot varietal typicity. There is plum, cherry, rose petal, incense, raspberry, thyme, salami and five spice amongst the scents that emerge. A spine of fine tannin, and really bright, briney acidity form the core, but there is a hint of spicy oak, a silken texture and savoury notes amongst the mix through the palate. It stays medium weight throughout, and finishes dry and refreshing. 92pts
