Matahiwi ‘M’ Methode Traditionnelle NV

A multi-vintage sparkling wine, made in the ‘Méthode Traditionnelle’ and hand-corked! I found the bottle really quite tricky to open, with a long, tight-fitting cork. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay grapes from the Matahiwi home vineyard, in the Wairarapa region. A fine line of bubbles, but not overly sparkling (compared to some Méthode tried recently). A yeasty autolysis note lights up the perfume, with lemon, apple, apricot and a touch of red cranberry flavour is there too. An elegant and broad feel to the palate, with a fine balance of zesty and richness. The citrus and biscuit flavours stay right through, into a finish that has a touch of creaminess. 92pts
