A red wine from Hawke’s Bay, blending Merlot from Te Awanga with Malbec from the Gimblett Gravels. A deep claret red colour in the glass, with cherry, plum, mint, blueberry and peppery spices on the nose. A lighter weight than the aromas may suggest waits on the palate. A smooth blending of ripe fruit, gentle oak and acidity gives a fruit-forward drinkability, before the tannin grip grows and adds some serious structure in behind. The finish is soft again, with a cozy warmth and harmony – and good length. 91pts
