A blend of red varietals, from Hawke’s Bay, using Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. An inky dark garnet in the glass. The nose is inviting and dark too, with a mix of ripe black fruits, redcurrant, tomato leaf, thyme and capsicum. Medium-bodied and with an integrated palate where no one elements dominates – the varietals each offering different but complimentary characters. Savoury notes blend into the fruit, with some peppery spice adding seasoning. Well-made and good value in this range and RRP. The smoky notes of the Cabernet Franc come through more at the end, with a dry, spicy finish. 92pts
