A varietal best known in Austria – it is what Sauvignon Blanc is to NZ. Little-grown in this country, this version comes from the organic Morrison Vineyard at Pisa in Central Otago. A pale golden-green in the glass. A bouquet of peach, pineapple, vanilla, with a characteristic white pepper note and a lift of lemon blossom florals as well. Dry and medium bodied, the acidity is zesty, driving those plush golden fruit flavours through the palate. A gentle spiciness sits mid-palate that has an ‘old-school’ width and weight to it. A very smooth, balanced texture carries into the finish. An excellent example of a food-friendly wine, and one that will age well, fattening up with some cellaring. 91pts
