From vines across the blocks at Alkina, in a cooler season for the Barossa. A light ruby-garnet in the glass. A floral and spicy set of aromas emerge – raspberry, sour cherry, yellow plum, followed by terracotta, sumac, allspice and lilac. The palate has youthful energy yet is quite delicate and pretty, the flavours flitting across your tongue. A ripe plushness is punctuated by a saline acidity, the interplay of this, plus an intense minerality forming the core of the wine – I don’t detect any oak influence. As well as the fleshy red fruits, there is a green herbal note that carries dryness and pith into the mid-length finish. 91pts
