A Marlborough Pinot – from the family of wines that saw the Sauvignon Blanc top the WineFolio Top 10 Tasting of that varietal and make my top ten wines of 2023 list. A single vineyard wine, harvested from the Cowslip Valley vineyard in Waihopai Valley. A ruby-garnet colour in the glass, with boisterous aromas of strawberry, red cherry, blackcurrant, cocoa and rose petal. Darkening into the palate, but still with a pop of crunchy fruit and some spicy, woody notes flooding through. Toasty oak becomes more apparent, jostling with the ripe flavours that bounce along on fresh acidity, amidst a youthful energy and drive. The finish sweetens and has good length. 92pts
