Maybe the deepest colour of the four new Valli releases – from Bendigo in Central Otago. It is also inky and mysterious on the nose – full of spice overlaid on black and dark red fruits – cranberry, rosehip, bramble, bracken, cocoa and cassis. Dry and detailed but quite emphatic on the palate – this makes an impression. The minerally, saline acidity contends with a plush prickle of tannin, as the concentration builds and the back of the palate is quite lavish, heading into a juicy and elongated finish. 95pts
