The South Brook vineyard is located in the Fairhall Valley within the Marlborough Southern Valleys, planted with traditional Dijon clones. The Pinot Noir from 2022 is bright and light – a translucent ruby colour in the glass. The perfume has wisps of vibrant spice, vanilla, black cherry, redcurrant and lilac florals. This focussed start reveals a Pinot that is delicate rather than muscular, but one that unfurls into a youthful, bright elegance. It’s all there, in layers of complexity. A creamy texture, some earthy savoury notes of nori and black olive, and some toasty oak. The spine of supple tannin and perky acidity suggests more evolution to come from this succulent expression. 93pts
