Taking inspiration from ‘Spätlese’ expressions of Riesling of Germany which are lighter in alcohol, and offer an off-dry sweetness balanced with a racy acidity. Grown in the Parkburn Vineyard, Central Otago, this years’ version comes in at 10% alcohol and 45 grams of residual sugar per litre. A very pale lime-straw colour in the glass. Wonderfully varietal on the nose – the perfume of lime, tangerine, creamy honey, apricot and jasmine also has a frisson of white pepper. A playful counterpoint between the sweetness and electric acidity forms the core of the palate. The harmony is both seamless and jazzy, creating the vibrancy that is the framework on which the other elements hang. A zesty, lingering finish. 92pts
