A deep garnet-ruby red in the glass, with a vibrant perfume redolent of redcurrant, bramble, chocolate, black pepper, mint and boysenberry. The palate mirrors the aroma, adding more savoury flavours and spice. Old leather, peat, roasted mushroom and salami notes emerge and blend with that lush red fruit in a harmonious way. Softly succulent and with a gentle acidity and just a kiss of oak, leading into a smooth texture. A well-made, good value example of Hawke’s Bay Syrah with plenty of drink-now appeal. 90pts
