Made from hand-picked fruit, on the Estate vineyard and only bottled in the best years – this Central Otago wine is the third release of Coal Pit Proprietor’s Reserve. Elegantly aromatic, with a subtle white peach, grapefruit, blackcurrant, preserved lemon, ginger and jasmine perfume. Some barrel ferment has given the palate some weight and creamy texture. That note of quartzy minerality that is a character in Otago whites is also clear and present – vivid and zesty. The acidity is briney and gives drive, whilst there is also a layer of herbal tarragon and thyme towards the back. Good length on the dry finish. 91pts
