A wine from Waikari in North Canterbury, with recent releases now starting to see the influences of Huw Kinch and the team at Aotearoa New Zealand Fine Wines Estates that now own and run Pyramid Valley. A pale straw colour in the glass. Perfumed with lemon peel, hay, crushed shell, grapefruit, muesli and orange blossom. The wine seems a little more polished than in the early days – the palate is intensely pure and clean, with real energy and focus. The acidity is king, briney and racing through in a direct line. A little almond and breadcrumb hint at oak without offsetting the balance and drive, but adding to a lusher textural feel deeper into the wine. The finish is long and sleek. 94pts
