From their beautiful vineyards on the Purerua Peninsula in the Bay of Islands. A pale golden-green in the glass, with an elegant perfume of grapefruit, macadamia nut, white peach and lemon blossom. Starts bone dry on the palate – quite tight and chalky, with a note of pithy fruit tannin, but quickly blooms into richer and riper flavours of cardamom, nutmeg and lime marmalade. As the wine opens up – lifted by a zesty drive of acidity – an element of vanilla from the oak adds more style and complexity to the structure, broadening and fattening up. The finish is dry and lingering, and I think this wine has a couple of years development ahead that would see even more character develop. 93pts
