From the estate on Waiheke Island’s Onetangi Valley, comes this right-bank Bordeaux-inspired blend. Perfumed with plum, roasted fennel, boysenberry, raspberry, rosemary and fresh dates. Medium-bodied, the palate accentuates the blend, with the Merlot adding a plush red berry, and the Cabernet Franc bringing notes of old leather and barnyard. There is a bright acidity, supple, chalky tannin, and a spicy element from the American oak. Layers of savoury and sweetness appear with black pepper, molasses and cacao nibs. A complex yet easy-to-like and reasonably forward-drinking expression. 92pts
