A wine from Waiheke Island – and a winery that continues to wine high praise and awards. A pale green-gold, with a touch of grey ‘gris’ to the edges. A fascinating bouquet – obviously varietal but also with a gummy astringency on the nose that tempers the ripeness and spice of the pear, honey, lime, golden apple and jasmine notes. More crushed shell minerality straightaway on the palate, plus a notable white pepper and malt. Dry, despite a swag of ripe fruit sweetness, and with a balance and acidity that are satisfyingly complex. Nice texture, full and rounded, and a lengthy finish. 92pts
