A first for Central Otago winemaker Matt Connell’s own label – a single vineyard Pinot Gris from Lowburn. A pale sand colour in the glass, with wonderfully expressive aromas of nectarine, nashi pear, hay, chestnut, satsuma and honeysuckle. Dry – maybe just veering to off-dry in feel, especially given the weight, ripeness and texture that swirls through the palate. A prickle of minerality grows and extends underneath the plush fruit flavours, and rides a wave of crisp acidity – a signature of Matt’s wines. The balance and clarity is excellent, and leads to a lingering, dry finish. 93pts
