From the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, fermented in a concrete egg. A pale, bright straw colour in the glass. The aromatics are intriguing, with underlying notes of apricot and peach, but with a slate, crushed shell and pithy top layer. Medium bodied, with a crispness and a racy acidity to the fore. Plenty of white pepper, ginger, and nutmeg spice is layered through the palate, where citrus flavours also develop, with a bite of lime zest and grapefruit peel. The finish is very clean, with delicious fruit purity and good length. 92pts
