Made at Clearview Estate, in Te Awanaga – a bespoke order from Michael Nock for his private label. A sliver of gunflint and smoky minerality is immediate, followed by golden peach, grapefruit, nutmeg, roast cashew and orange blossom florals on the nose. Profoundly concentrated and intense in the palate. A dash of bright, saline acidity just about keeps the voluptuous fruit in check and things flowing. The oak (100% new) is flamboyantly immense – rich, toasty with unfolding spice and opulence. A sensual, ripe weight grows and then the texture sets in – creamy and plush. It is quite old school, but utterly loveable, because of that. 95pts
