Does what it says on the tin. A Barossa Shiraz. A deep, dark, rich nose of blackcurrant jam, pepper, dark chocolate, anise, bramble, cranberry, kirsch, and the tang of a hot tarry road. Generously opulent and unashamedly ripe and fleshy. A serious core holds things together though, with the grip of dry tannins, some buoyant acidity and plenty of savoury, umami, earthy notes to counterbalance that voluptuous fruit. At 14.5% alcohol, this runs a little hot through the middle, but the smooth texture slows things down and has a gentle, balm-like effect. A drying, luxurious finish with good persistance. 92pts
