A Hawke’s Bay wine, from an award-winning producer of good value wines – this wine often on sale for under $20. A classic deep carmine red in the glass, and with a smoky perfume of plum, blackcurrant and raspberry fruits, plus a lick of vanilla and fruit cake. Firm, with moderate acidity and an easy going nature – balanced but playing it safe. Quite full, showing rounded tannins, a gentle seasoning of oak, and ending on a sweetening finish. A great wine for the table, with plump, ripe flavours. 88pts
