A Marlborough wine from the Southern Valleys sub-region, and winner of a Gold Medal at NZIWS this year. A dark ruby in the glass, with bright aromatics of cherry, blackcurrant, star anise, cranberry, cola and dried herbs. A current of acidity, fine, chalky tannins, and a plush wedge of fruit makes for a well balanced and structured palate. Satisfying depth and complexity. There’s an earthiness and savoury element that also provides a counterpoint to the glossy fruit – a nice resinous tang to the back of the palate. Finishes well – long and dry. 91pts
