Winner of the Negociants Trophy for Champion Viognier at NZIWS this year. From their coastal vineyard at Paewhenua Island, near Mangonui – and made by Northland legend Rod MacIvor. A pale gold in the glass, with a crisp, voluminous nose of apricot, pear, nougat, oatmeal biscuit and lemon blossom. Varietally pure, and with some delicious barrel-ferment toastiness added to a deep and complex wine. Concentrated, plush and rounded and with a delicate balance that rides on a bright acidity. A silky texture with hints of marmalade, creme fraiche and grapefruit pith. Finishes drier and long. Another excellent NZ Viognier – (see our Other Whites Top 10 tasting results) one of several that are really carrying the torch for this varietal. 94pts
