A big Italian wine, perfect for our Saturday night spaghetti with beef ragu. Dense claret colour in the glass, brooding and bloody. Intensely bright and aromatic on the nose, perfumed with blueberry, pepper, cherry, graphite, plum, bayleaf and baking spice. Dry, full-bodied and balanced between a succulent sweetness of pure fruit, and a peaty savoury side. Easy to like, nothing too complex or out of place – such smoothness. Tannin is apparent – chewy and with an edge of black tea and a layer of herbal notes with mint, olive leaf and sumac. Sumptuous. This was quickly drained on an evening with friends around the table. 93pts.
