From a range of selected vineyards across the Marlborough region – including fruit from the southern town of Ward. Light ruby in colour, with a gorgeous floral-led bouquet of ripe dark fruit and a wisp of roasted spices. Medium-weighted and open in style, not reliant on structure – almost playful and coltish. Juicy and lush, with redcurrant, black cherry, raspberry, elderberry, rosehip lying in layers across the width of the palate. Soft, ripe tannins, and a savoury, umami note framed by the smoky oak. As with other Mahi wines, there is a devotion to texture, and here it sits plumply alongside a wet-stone minerality. Great complexity to the finish. 93pts.
