From fruit grown by Jeff and Vanessa Hammond in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough – from the low-yielding, but superb quality, 2021 vintage. A pale peachy pink in the glass, with a bouquet showing a multitude of red notes. Redcurrant, cherry, raspberry, vanilla, rhubarb, and a floral lift of summer rose petals. Dry, medium to full bodied, with weight and concentration. The palate reflects the nose, but adds more citrus, pear and melon to the mix. Balanced, with layers of spice, a nip of delicious fruit tannin – like the crunch of an apple skin, and a distinctive mineral streak of crushed shell and salinity. Complex, textural, elegant and with great character. Finishes dry, fresh and mouthwatering. 93pts.
