From a single vineyard on Havelock North Terraces, of old vine Mendoza Chardonnay. Vibrant lemon-green colour in the glass, with flinty, smoky aromas of lemon zest, cashew nut, grapefruit, nectarine, acacia, nutmeg and orange blossom on the nose. A striking acidity gives great drive, and the palate is filled with ripe tropical and stonefruit flavours. Tightly structured, with an agile balance between salinity, fruit, oak, phenolics and acid. The thing about this Chardonnay though, is not just that harmony, but the texture that cocoons the back of the palate with a plush, lemon curd, crème brulee, sensual sensation. Baking spice and sweeter, toasty brioche notes sidle in towards the finish – which is long, complex, and complete. 95pts.
