From Alexandra fruit, this Central Otago Pinot Noir shows a real sense of place – shared with a couple of colleagues, we all agreed this was one of those ‘quintessential Central’ Pinots.
Dark ruby in the glass, flashing bright magenta as you swirl to release the aromatics. Lush and perfumed, with black plum and cherry on the nose, accented by smoky middle-eastern spice and dried thyme notes. Juicy and vibrant in the palate, with redcurrant, bramble and more cherry. Some savoury flavours of chorizo, pepper and a little minerality. Tannins are supple, warm, and balance nicely with some nutty new oak and a flowing acidity. Complex, characterful – well crafted and simply delicious – everything in the right place. 94pts.
