Church Road have expanded their ‘Gwen’ range – now with a Rosé, Pinot Gris and a Chardonnay. From the Matapiro Vineyard at Crownthorpe Terraces, the Pinot Gris shows a varietal purity – crisply aromatic with lemon rind, ginger, pear and blanched almond on the nose. Light to medium bodied – refined and with a succulent delicacy. Acidity is moderate; the palate agile and with a light-footed balance. The citrus is buoyant through the middle, with apricot and white peach nestled underneath. Dry, but with a relaxed creaminess and silky texture through the palate. Ending with a grapefruit pithiness and a note of stony minerality towards the finish. Should age well. 91pts.
