The 10th anniversary edition of this wine, from the company vineyards in Hawke’s Bay. Deep ruby colour in the glass, with a youthful, vivid nose showing damson, redcurrant, pepper, cassis, mocha, allspice, and a floral violet note. Fruit forward, with a sweep of dark, rich flavours on the palate. Tannin has a little grip but is nicely integrated, balances with a line of acidity to give a well-structured spine to the wine. Texture is smooth and plush. Towards the back of the palate there’s a nudge of minerality – an iron-earthiness and that tang you get from fresh, tart yoghurt. Gives an intriguing edge to the long, sumptuous finish. 93pts.
