A single vineyard selection from their Marlborough vineyard – the excellent Giesen range that also includes a Ridge Block and a Clayvin Pinot Noir (reviewed here – www.winefolio.co.nz/?p=1582). Invitingly perfumed, with rosehip, blueberry, doris plum and dashes of spice, wisteria flowers and herbals of fennel and bay leaf. Refined, intense and detailed. Tannins are fine, supple, showing a spine that is the structure for all the other complex layers to be built around. Acidity is moderate, integrated. More red fruits, baking spice and savoury nuance deeper into the palate. Hints of black tea, soy, chestnut, white mushroom and creme fraiche. Texture is svelte, relaxed and mouthfilling. Great harmony to the finish – lengthy and persistant. 95pts.
