Rapaura Springs Bull Paddock Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2021

A single vineyard expression, from a vineyard in Dillon’s Point that was once dairy farmland. Arguably one of the best sub-regions from which to select your top-of-the-line Sauvignon Blanc. Whilst it has retained those flavours that spell ‘Marlborough’ written large across it, this area has quickly become many consumer’s preferred location. I recall a tasting last year where the ‘Rohe – Dillons Point’ wine was poured, to gasps of delight from the room! So you can imagine I’m super keen to try this 2021.

I’ve also been sent the Rapaura Springs ‘Rohe’ range to try – a set of regional wines that have been created to showcase the sub-regions of Marlborough and how the distinct terroir of each territory shines through in the wines from the grapes grown there. Some thoughts on the three ‘Rohe Sauvignon Blancs’ to follow next…

The palest lemon-gold in the glass. An explosive nose, with honeydew melon, passionfruit, cucumber, lime zest, guava, and herbals of tarragon, basil and chamomile. Tight, energetic and linear with a scintillating acid drive. Dry yet juicy – more bright, pure fruit on the palate with blackcurrant, preserved lemon and green papaya. Superb salinity and a mineral edge that reminds of a walk on a windswept, shell-speckled and sea-sprayed beach. Mineral through a softer texture at the back. The finish is by contrast quite delicate and ethereal. 94pts. I get it.
