From Marlborough, a brilliant pale straw colour. With a nose that combines elegance with depth – peach and melon with a toasted almond, but also vanilla and caramel. Dry, medium-bodied – great tension and focus. Plenty of drive – a brisk acidity that cuts through the deep, rich palate. More stonefruit, chestnut, popcorn and golden apple interwoven with smoky, baking spice notes. New, toasty, oak is apparent – starting to integrate, but is definitely a feature of this wine – for those on the old world, old school style. A wide, luscious texture, creamy and enveloping. Finish is generous, with contrasts between sweetness and a drying pithiness – and lengthy. 94pts.
