A Martinborough Pinot Noir from talented winemaker Daniel Brennan. A lighter ruby in the glass, with a lifted, elegant nose filled with musk rose, orange rind, damson and red cherry, with a little funky mushroom and forest floor. The concentrated belies the colour, with a subtle power and exhuberance. The savoury, soy-like umami, leads before the fruit. Freshness of redcurrant and raspberry, but also a deeper, sweetness, like a dark seville marmalade and crème caramel. Great line from the acidity, but more tannin-led and with a harmony and balance that is smart considering how much is going on in this wine. The finish is massive, endless and sweetening. 94pts.
