Fruit from a site on Te Muna Road in Martinborough – a new label that I featured in April, but the first time trying the wine for me. www.winefolio.co.nz/?p=3321
Bright on the nose, with crunchy red fruits – cherry, Campari, plum and a little floral, violet note. Medium-bodied, a little edgy still, with good structure. The acidity is vivid and draws you in – the tannins a bit chewy but tight; negligible oak influence. Sweet fruited, and a savoury tobacco and loam – typical of the regional style. A green nettle note sneaks into the back of the palate (could just be some whole bunch that needs more integration) but contrasts nicely with some spices and warmth that lie around the layers too – mocha, vanilla, cinnamon. An interesting wine, with coltish, youthful character. 89pts.
