From the coastal ‘Seaview Vineyard’ on the edge of the Awatere Valley. A new 2020 wine. Brooding inky garnet red in the glass, with an aromatic ‘pop’ to the nose – blueberry, black cherry, cola, almond, raspberry and bubblegum. An expressive style, distinctively upfront and with a youthful bounce. Filled with effusive verve, intense fleshy and succulent fruit, lit by a bright acidity. If the nose is lively and overt – the palate is flooded with plenty of weight. A savoury layer balances the plush fruitiness – earthy, with soy, elderberry, tapenade and truffle. Smoky, slightly reductive, and with a gorgeous dusting of spiced oak. Tannins are refined, ripe, and approachable. A long, mouthwatering finish. 93pts.
