Nicknamed “Black Ops” this Bendigo Pinot Noir was one of the stars of the recent Winetopia show in Auckland, and was one of my favourite wines of the recent ‘Top 10 Tasting’
An amazing depth to the wine – colour and fruit. A rich, bright, youthful nose filled with plum, dried herbs, coffee, cinnamon, blackberry and buttered toast. Tight through the front of the palate, showing vibrant acidity and drive. Laden with fruit, concentrated and intense raspberry, cranberry and dark sour cherry. Meaty, warm leather, earthy mineral. Spiced with nutmeg, green peppercorn, anise and hiding underneath is just a little green nettle. Lithe, supple tannins – beautifully integrated and balanced with the fruit and the subtle smokiness of the oak. Towards the end, the wine takes a turn from the deep core and the finish is lighter, ethereal and has superb length. 94pts.
