From the Kuranui vineyard in the Upper Awatere – a great place for Pinot. Fresh and inviting on the nose, with dried herb, plum, redcurrant, bramble, violets and toffee-caramel aromas. A few years in the bottle – showing good harmony amid some still quite big, chewy tannins, and a fair smudge of oak still making itself known. Unashamedly big in stature. Fruit is quite plump and rounded, and the acidity is still vibrant and with plenty of drive. A little earthiness and smoky savouriness comes calling at the end, before a well-balanced and lengthy finish. 92pts.
