Handpicked fruit from the Purerua Peninsula in the Bay of Islands, in the excellent 2019 harvest. Light golden-green in the glass, with an elegant nose of peach, chestnut, greengage and oatmeal biscuit. Crisp, poised and youthful, showing a vibrant acid line that mixes a quartzy seam of minerality with a citrus zestiness.
Balance is right through to the core of this wine – neither oak, fruit, texture or acidity star in a primary role, but each playing a contribution to the complex harmony of each mouthful. Saline and gently spiced at the end, there’s a grapefruit-pith dryness to the agile, lingering finish that’s a delicious counterpoint to the ripe fruit. 93pts.
